Salisbury is one of the finest medieval cathedrals
in Britain. Construction started in 1220 and was completed by 1258.
The
Spire was added later,and
is the tallest in
England (123m/404ft). The cathedral and close are open to all, with
guided tours available most days.
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument of unique importance, known throughout
the world. Stonehenge has been recognised as a site of outstanding
universal value and been given World Heritage Site status. The henge is
an interesting and fascinating place where you can really begin to
feel the ancient way of life and marvel at their achievements.
Wilton was the ancient capital of Wessex. Wilton House was built in the
seventeenth century, and is one of The Treasure Houses of England. The
house provides many splendid State Rooms which house a world famous art
collection including works by Van Dyck, Reynolds, Brueghel and Rembrandt.
The world famous Wilton and Axminister carpets are produced
nearby at the Wilton Carpet Factory. This is the only place in
the world where
